![]() My back was hurting so I decided to sit and rest it for a few moments. Like the other day when I was going to do the ironing. ![]() Some days, with all the good intentions in the world, I still can’t get everything I planned done. When I really think about it, I can see I do still have obsessive moments.Īs much as I can be motivated to complete something, there are various reasons why it might take literally days. Nevertheless, I like to think I have moved past this behaviour. Whilst I remember the feeling of needing to be diligent, I don’t recall what made me think I needed to do even more. Suddenly his patience snapped, and he told me “That’s enough! It’s like you’re obsessed!” James was trying to take the bag outside, when I stopped him and was tying more knots. I’m hazy on the details, but I know I was really keen on ensuring the rubbish bag was done up tightly to avoid it spilling its contents in the bin outside. In the first few months following my accident, I remember a weird incident between my partner, James and I, when taking out the rubbish. It borders on obsession… A brain injury can give rise to some unusual behaviour. However, now when I’m in the moment, sometimes I can’t get past my rigid thinking. All the men reading this are knowingly nodding. Besides, being a woman I have been known to change my mind. I’m sure that I was probably susceptible to some preconceived ideas, but I would listen to a well thought out debate even on those. She isn’t entirely sure what the rules are, but she gets to run and jump a lot so she’s happy. Before my brain injury I liked to think of myself as open minded. All the sensory input from her day comes out of her mouth and her non-stop limbs. She’s busy and actually talks non-stop (even when she is alone). Energy Hare-y keeps Kate’s energy level at full tilt from morning until night. This unthinkable is pretty obvious, I think. How do you tell her peers that she doesn't understand that it isn't funny the second, seventh or seven hundredth time? She has a rubber pencil and a bottle of fake spilled glue and a water squirting calculator that give her so much entertainment. It does, however, get old for the rest of us. For example, she takes the batteries out of the remote control and she laughs every single time we fall for it. ![]() I cannot tell you how much Kate loves playing practical jokes (or her version of them, anyway). This silly unthinkable tends to play the same joke over, and over and over and over again. More out of laziness than concerns over privacy. There are far less charming examples that actually cause some pretty difficult days in our home but I don’t feel like sharing that, right now. To be fair, though, the ‘getting stuck’ part can actually be quite debilitating if it stops your child from moving on and navigating their day. Kate’s birthday is one topic that she gets majorly stuck on, but it can be seen as funny, even if somewhat exhausting. Me: Why don’t we wait until closer to the day. Kate: Do you want to see my Birthday list? Could we take a few months off from talking about it everyday? Me: Your Birthday is Eleven and a half months away, Kate. He gets a kid stuck on a topic, subject, rule, expectation, you name it, and it is near impossible to get him to let you be flexible in your thinking. Rock Brain: This guy is a major pain in the ass.
